Kindness Book List

I feel like this year more than ever, it is so important to teach our children to be kind.  Be kind to others, be kind to those that are different, and kind to themselves!  For the month of February we wanted to share some of our favorite kindness books!  Check out the full list below!

I Walk With Vanessa by Kerascoet

This is a wordless book with a powerful message.  It is about a girl who is being bullied at school and the power of one person's kindness.  There is a great discussion guide at the end as well to discuss bullying with your kids.

Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller

When I was in elementary school, I was running at recess one day and fell in the mud.  As a young kid this was a traumatizing experience.  This story hit close to home as it begins with a girl who spills grape juice all over her dress.  I love the simple acts of kindness shown.  A great reminder that we all need to "be kind."

I am Human by Susan Verde

I love the message of this book and I love all pictures by Peter H. Reynolds, so it's a win, win!  This book is all about how we are human, we can learn, grow, and make mistakes.  We can make choices, be kind, and love ourselves and others.  This is a great book with a lot to talk about as a family!

The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania Al Abdullah

This book is about two best friends who come from different backgrounds.  They struggle to accept the differences with one another, thinking their ways are the right way.  When I was a teacher, I loved reading this book to my student's and the the discussions we had after!

The One and Only Ivan by Katharine Applegate

This book is a chapter book for middle grade readers.  This book teaches the beauty and power of friendship.

The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be by Joanna Gaines

The pictures and message of this book are so beautiful.  We are all different and it's okay!! We need all of our abilities, skills, and differences to make the world a better place!

Wonder by R.J. Palachio

This book!  (And also the movie!) It's just a must read or must see.  Choose kindness!

In my Heart by Jo Witek

This book is all about understanding emotions.  It may not necessarily be about kindness, but I think that helping our kid's understand their emotions is one of the kindest things we can do.
